1. Information We Collect
Rents In UAE is designed to be anonymous by default. We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the Platform:
Anonymous Device Identifier
A randomly generated UUID stored in your browser's localStorage. This is never linked to your identity and is not transmitted to third parties.
Submitted Rent Data
When you submit a rent entry: property type, rent amount, frequency, furnished status, and an offset location (see Section 3). No address, name, or contact details are collected.
Community Votes
Your confirm/dispute votes on entries are stored locally in your browser and used anonymously to update database counters.
Comments
If you post a comment, the text and an anonymous device hash are stored server-side. No personal information is attached.
Usage Data
We may collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page visited) as part of hosting infrastructure. This data is not used for tracking or sold to third parties.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Display aggregated, anonymous rental price data on the Platform map
- Rate-limit submissions to prevent spam (max 3 entries per device per 24 hours)
- Apply community trust scores and hide low-quality submissions
- Operate and maintain the technical infrastructure of the Platform
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
3. Anonymity & Location Data
When you submit a rent entry by dropping a pin on the map, your selected coordinates are automatically offset by approximately 30 metres in a random direction before being stored in our database.
This means:
- Your exact building or unit location is never stored
- The data point appears near, but not at your actual location
- The offset is sufficient to prevent identification of your specific unit while remaining useful for area-level analysis
The offset algorithm applies a random displacement of ±0.0006 degrees in both latitude and longitude (approximately 30–67 metres). This is performed server-side and the original coordinates are discarded.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the Platform. Each has its own privacy policy:
Google Maps Platform
Powers the interactive map, geocoding (reverse address lookup), and location search. Google may collect usage data per their Maps API terms.
Supabase
Our backend database and API infrastructure, hosted within the EU. Rent entry data and anonymous device hashes are stored here. Supabase complies with GDPR and standard data protection practices.
Vercel
Our hosting and content delivery network. Vercel processes standard web traffic logs including IP addresses as part of hosting infrastructure.
ipapi.co
Used on map load to detect your approximate emirate location (country and region only) to set the default map centre. No persistent data is stored. Request completes within 1 second and fails gracefully.
6. Data Retention
Submitted rent entries are retained indefinitely to maintain the historical dataset that makes the Platform useful over time. Entries that are heavily disputed (5+ reports with 0 confirms) are automatically hidden from the map but may be retained in the database.
You may request deletion of your own entry using the delete function within the rent detail popup, provided you are using the same browser/device that submitted the entry.
Rate-limiting records in our submission log are automatically aged out after 30 days.
7. Your Rights
Because we do not collect personal data or link submissions to identifiable individuals, traditional data subject requests (access, erasure, portability) are generally not applicable.
However:
- You can delete your own submissions directly from the Platform using the delete option in the rent detail view (available on the same device/browser that submitted the entry)
- You can clear all local data by clearing localStorage for this site in your browser settings
- If you believe a submission contains personally identifiable information about you that was submitted by another user, contact us at hello@rentsinuae.com and we will review it
8. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data through the Platform, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
